The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has urged the people to celebrate August 14 (Monday), Independence Day of Pakistan, as ‘Jashn-e-Azadi’ and observe August 15 (Tuesday), India’s Independence Day, as Black Day in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

The APHC spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar said that India had no moral right to cele-brate its Independence Day as it had held people and land of Kashmir illegally from the last over seven decades through military might.

The spokesman said, “Not only our identity has been snatched but New Delhi is racing towards a well-planned genocide to change the identity and demographic character of the Muslim majority territory to satisfy its Hindutva RSS/BJP totalitarian and communal goals.”

He deplored that all basic human rights and civil liberties had been ruthlessly snatched and violated by India in the occupied territory. “Over six lakh people have been murdered, tens of thousands tortured and imprisoned and thousands killed in custody and in fake encounters,” he deplored.

Meanwhile, despite the heavy deployment of Indian troops, paramilitary and police personnel and surveillance cameras, posters have again appeared in Srinagar and other areas of the territory reading “14th August – congratulations to the people of Pakistan on the 76th independence anniversary.”

“The Kashmir dispute is an unfinished agenda of the partition of the Indian subcontinent”. “Paki-stan is the champion of Kashmiris’ right to self-determination”, the posters said.

The posters read, “Sustainable peace cannot be established in the region without resolving the Kashmir dispute according to the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and the resolutions of the United Nations.”

“Pakistan is a precious gift of Allah Almighty. Kashmiris consider themselves a part of this country and are struggling to free Jammu and Kashmir from the Indian illegal occupation and annex it to Pakistan,” the posters said.

The posters, displayed by All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Jammu and Kashmir Political Resis-tance Movement, JK Justice and Peace Initiative, Nawjawanan-e-Hurriyet Jammu Kashmir, Jammu Kashmir Justice League Forum, Jammu Kashmir Peoples Resistance Party, Jammu Kashmir Democratic Movement and others with Pakistani flag, have been pasted on pillars, electricity poles and walls containing pictures of top Kashmiri resistance leaders, Masarat Aalam Butt, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Aasiya Andrabi, Nayeem Ahmed Khan, Mushtaq-ul-Islam and other detained leaders.

The posters said that India had no right to celebrate its Independence Day as it had illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir against the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. They further said that the so-called largest democracy of the world had usurped all the fundamental rights of the Kashmiri people, including their birthright to self-determination.

The posters said that the people of Indian ille-gally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, by observing complete shutdown on India’s Independence Day on Tuesday, would convey a loud and clear message to India and the world that they wanted freedom from Indian yoke.—KMS
