ISLAMABAD – The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has announced a significant increase in salaries for university teachers serving under the Tenure Track System.
The Commission has also deferred post-PhD experience requirements for faculty appointed on the Basic Pay Scale (BPS).
According to the notification, the revised salaries for Tenure Track System faculty will take effect from July 1, 2026.
New Salary Package for University Teachers
Under the new scale, professors will receive a minimum salary of Rs407,220 and a maximum of Rs712,030. For associate professors, the minimum salary has been set at Rs357,810, while the maximum will be Rs645,610.
Assistant professors will have a minimum salary of Rs288,020 and a maximum of Rs553,820.
The revised pay scales will also apply to teachers already employed until June 30, 2026, with their salaries adjusted accordingly. The notification states that universities will bear the entire financial burden of the salary revisions from their own resources.
In another measure, the HEC has deferred the post-PhD experience requirement for faculty appointed on BPS.
The requirement of eight years of post-PhD experience for professors and four years for associate professors has been postponed until December 31, 2026.
The HEC has stated that no further extension will be granted after the deadline. From January 1, 2027, the post-PhD experience requirement will be enforced across universities.
