Defence Minister Khawaja Asif on Wednesday said Pakistan would support Saudi Arabia against any threat, stressing that Islamabad considers any enemy of the Kingdom an enemy of Pakistan.
According to media reports, he said Pakistan had no doubt that Yemen’s Houthi group was committing aggression against Saudi Arabia and pledged to make all available resources accessible to Riyadh if its security came under threat.
His remarks followed renewed tensions between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis over cross-border attacks.
Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye signed the Makkah trilateral defence agreement on August 7, under which an armed attack on any one of the three countries is to be treated as an attack on all.
Asif also said Iran does not acknowledge the Houthis as its proxy, noting that state-backed groups can eventually become independent actors.
Earlier this month, he said Pakistan would fulfil its obligations under the Makkah agreement following an attempted drone attack near the holy city, while stressing that protecting Makkah was a responsibility regardless of any formal pact.
