LAHORE – Owners and operators of commercial and public-service vehicles in Punjab are required by law to have their vehicles inspected every six months to obtain the fitness certificate.
The inspection is generally carried out during the month before the vehicle’s fitness certificate is due for renewal.
Completing the inspection is essential, as vehicles that do not meet the requirement cannot proceed with the renewal of their route permit, token tax or registration.
Vehicle owners can schedule an inspection appointment online at one of the Vehicle Inspection and Certification System (VICS) stations.

Appointments require basic personal details along with information about the vehicle, including its type, make, model and registration number.
Owners can also indicate whether they are applying as individuals or on behalf of a company and select their preferred inspection station and appointment date.

The inspection requirement is intended to ensure that commercial and public vehicles complete the necessary fitness checks before their certificates and related documentation are renewed.
Meanwhile, the Punjab Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has released comparative data on its anti-smog enforcement activities for 2025-26, showing a significant increase in action against environmental violations.
According to the data, authorities imposed fines totaling Rs305.1 million for violations of environmental regulations during the year, marking a 66 percent increase compared with the previous year.
The authorities also sealed 5,461 locations as part of the campaign against pollution, with sealing operations rising by around two and a half times compared with the previous year.
During enforcement operations, 1,467 polluting units were demolished, while 101,159 inspections of brick kilns and industrial units were carried out, representing a 20 percent increase year-on-year.
Authorities have also continued action against marriage halls, banquet halls and marquees across Punjab over the installation of suction hoods. Following the expiry of the deadline for installing the equipment, officials said no further extension would be granted.
Marriage halls operating without the required suction hoods will face closure or sealing, along with heavy fines, according to the authorities.
The EPA said teams visited 4,256 locations to monitor suction hood installation. Hoods had been installed at 1,163 sites, while 820 locations were sealed.
Enforcement against industrial units resulted in fines worth Rs171.3 million, while a separate crackdown on plastic violations generated Rs31.5 million in fines, 4.7 times higher than the previous year.
