Pakistani Travel Vlogger Asma Mushtaq Dies During Spantik Expedition

ISLAMABAD – Pakistani travel vlogger and mountaineer Asma Mushtaq has died during an expedition to Spantik Peak in Gilgit-Baltistan, according to reports.

Asma Mushtaq, who was born on February 7, 1992, was known for her passion for adventure, mountaineering and exploring Pakistan’s natural landscapes. Her travel content and interest in the country’s mountains had earned her recognition among adventure and mountaineering enthusiasts.

Asma Mushtaq had recently joined an expedition to Spantik Peak, also known as Golden Peak, which rises to an elevation of 7,027 metres in Pakistan’s Karakoram mountain range.

According to reports, Mushtaq successfully reached the summit of Spantik along with her guide, Ali Akbar. She was reportedly in good health after reaching the top of the mountain.

However, she encountered difficulties while descending from the peak and allegedly developed symptoms associated with high-altitude sickness. Her guide reportedly provided initial medical assistance and attempted to help her during the descent, but she could not survive.

The incident has once again drawn attention to the serious risks associated with high-altitude mountaineering, where rapidly changing weather, low oxygen levels, exhaustion and difficult terrain can pose major challenges even to experienced climbers.

The arrangements are reportedly underway to recover and transport Mushtaq’s body from the remote mountainous area.

Karakoram Calling Treks is said to be in contact with the relevant authorities and assisting with the arrangements.

Following news of her death, the social media users expressed deep sorrow and offered condolences to her family.

Her passing away has left the Pakistani mountaineering and travel community mourning the loss of a young adventurer who pursued her passion for exploring some of the country’s most challenging and spectacular mountain destinations.

Many remembered Mushtaq for her love of mountains, beaches and scenic landscapes, as well as her enthusiasm for adventure and travel.
