Suicide bomber identified in Swat Kabal police station attack: KP IGP

SWAT – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed has confirmed that the suicide bomber involved in the deadly attack near Kabal Police Station in Swat has been identified.

Speaking to journalists in Swat, the provincial police chief said a joint investigation team (JIT) would be constituted to conduct a detailed probe into the bombing.

He also announced that police personnel killed in the attack would be provided compensation and other benefits under the government’s martyrs’ package.

According to the IGP, security agencies had already been alerted to a possible threat, prompting authorities to adopt stringent security measures around the police station.

He said police personnel intercepted the attacker before he could enter the premises, resulting in the explosion.

Zulfiqar Hameed said the police force had modern weapons and equipment but efforts were underway to further enhance its capabilities.

He acknowledged that militant groups continued attempting to reorganise, but said security forces were pursuing them and would not allow them to establish themselves again.

The IGP confirmed that the bomber’s identity had been established and said further investigation was underway to determine the circumstances and network behind the attack.

15 killed in Swat Kabal police station bombing

The attack occurred a day earlier near the entrance of Kabal Police Station in Swat, leaving 15 people dead, including six police personnel, while at least 10 others were injured.

The police initially described the incident as a suicide bombing. Investigators recovered the suspected attacker’s head from the scene, while preliminary findings reportedly indicated that the bomber was an Afghan national.

Following the explosion, a large contingent of police personnel reached the site, while the bodies of the deceased and injured were shifted to Central Hospital Swat.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed grief over the loss of lives, extended condolences to the families of the victims and prayed for the recovery of those injured. He also directed authorities to ensure that the wounded received the best possible medical treatment.

KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi condemned the attack and sought a detailed report from the provincial police chief. He also expressed sympathy with the families of the police personnel and civilians killed in the bombing.

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also condemned the attack, praising the police officers who sacrificed their lives to prevent the bomber from entering the police station.

Naqvi said the officers’ sacrifice had saved other lives and represented an exceptional example of courage and devotion to duty.

He paid tribute to the slain personnel and expressed solidarity with their families.
