PESHAWAR – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has stepped up contacts with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) to explore the possibility of launching a joint political movement against the federal government.
Sources said PTI leaders have met with JUI-F leadership and proposed coordinated protests against the federal government.
The two sides also discussed the possibility of adopting a joint political strategy for the next general elections.
However, JUI-F has so far refrained from endorsing a joint protest campaign, maintaining that mutual trust between the two parties must first be fully restored.
PTI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa spokesperson Shaukat Yousafzai confirmed that contacts had been established with JUI-F leaders.
Yousafzai said direct meetings had also been held with JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, adding that the two parties were increasingly aligned on the need for an effective political movement against the federal government.
He said PTI and JUI-F were close to reaching an understanding on several issues, suggesting that further cooperation between the two opposition parties could emerge in the coming days.
The latest contacts reflect efforts by opposition forces to develop a broader political platform against the federal government.
However, a joint protest movement and any future electoral cooperation would depend on further consultations and agreement between the leadership of both parties.
