KARACHI – Sindh government on Friday announced that all public and private educational institutions across the region will remain closed on Tuesday, August 4, for Chehlum of Imam Hussain (AS).
A notification issued by School Education & Literacy Department said the holiday will apply to all schools operating under the administrative control of the department. The decision was taken in line with the approval of the Steering Committee during its meeting held on February 12, 2026.
August 4 Holiday
The announcement comes just a day after educational institutions are scheduled to reopen following the end of the summer vacations. Schools across Sindh are set to resume classes on Monday, August 3, 2026, before observing the one-day closure on August 4.
The notification stated that both government and private educational institutions will remain closed on the occasion of Chehlum (20th Safar 1448 AH). Students are expected to return to their regular academic schedule after the public holiday, subject to any further directives issued by the provincial government.
Earlier this week, the government approved deployment of Pakistan Army and Rangers personnel across Punjab to reinforce security for the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA).
The troops will assist police and other law-enforcement agencies in securing processions and religious gatherings. According to the security plan, Army and Rangers personnel will begin duties one day before Chehlum and remain deployed throughout the observance to help maintain law and order.
