ISLAMABAD – Intermittent rainfall, ranging from light showers to heavy downpours, continued across Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Friday, inundating low-lying areas, disrupting movement in several localities and prompting authorities to remain on high alert.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the latest rainfall data recorded at 1:40pm showed that the ongoing spell, which began at 4:40am, brought significant rainfall to several parts of the twin cities.

The PMD advised the public to remain cautious and urged relevant authorities to stay alert as the rain spell continued.
In Rawalpindi, torrential rain submerged several low-lying areas, while blocked sewerage lines caused rainwater to enter streets and residential neighbourhoods. Water accumulation created significant difficulties for commuters and residents.
Islamabad’s district administration said assistant commissioners were present in the field alongside sanitation teams to monitor the situation.
Dewatering pumps were being used to drain accumulated water, while continuous monitoring of low-lying areas and drains was underway. Authorities said traffic flow on major highways remained uninterrupted.
Islamabad Roads, Underpasses Update
Meanwhile, Islamabad Traffic Police said traffic was moving on all roads despite the ongoing rain, with officers deployed across the city to ensure smooth traffic flow. Chief Traffic Officer Kainat Azhar Khan was monitoring the traffic situation.
Police urged residents to avoid gathering beneath underpasses and advised motorists not to drive vehicles or motorcycles through heavily waterlogged areas. Citizens were also asked to drive at reduced speeds, use indicators and contact the emergency helpline 15 in case of any emergency.
