Pcmlf Condemns Illegal Deaths Of Coal Workers In Speen Karez Near Quetta

QUETTA -The Pakistan Central Mines Labour Federation (PCMLF) strongly condemns the illegal and unreported deaths of coal workers in the Speen Karez coalfield.

Reports indicate that approximately 38 coal workers have lost their lives; however, the exact number of casualties must be verified through an independent and transparent investigation.

PCMLF expresses deep concern over the continued concealment of mining accidents and the failure of relevant authorities and mine owners to ensure the safety and protection of workers. Hiding workplace fatalities is a grave violation of workers’ rights and undermines efforts to improve occupational safety and health in Pakistan’s mining sector.

PCMLF demands that the Government of Balochistan, the Mines and Minerals Department, and law enforcement agencies immediately investigate the incident, disclose the true facts, and take strict legal action against all those responsible for any attempt to conceal the deaths of miners.

The Federation reiterates its longstanding demand for the effective implementation of mine safety laws and ILO Convention C-176 to prevent such tragedies and ensure justice for coal workers and their families.
