Punjab Launches Pakistans First Green Police Unit With Electric Car

LAHORE – Punjab has launched the Pakistan’s first-ever Green Police Unit in a major step towards environment friendly policing across the province.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif inaugurated the new unit, which features an electric patrol vehicle.

During the event, the chief minister inspected the electric vehicle, even taking the wheel herself for a test drive. The vehicle, a state-of-the-art BYD electric car, will be used for patrolling Lahore’s traffic, contributing to a cleaner, greener environment.

CM Maryam was briefed on the details of the Green Police Unit and the electric vehicle, which boasts an impressive range of 410 kilometers per charge.

The vehicle also features advanced surveillance technology, including a modern PA system, police lights, a 360-degree camera, and speed detection tools.

A key highlight of the briefing was the cost-saving potential of the electric vehicles. Currently, 103 patrol vehicles consume around 28,000 liters of fuel every month, costing approximately 7.42 million rupees.

However, the introduction of electric vehicles will save up to 4,500 liters of fuel per vehicle annually, significantly reducing operational costs and ensuring zero carbon emissions.

The chief minister has directed the gradual increase in the number of electric vehicles in the Green Police Unit and ordered the expansion of the initiative to other districts across Punjab.
