The third suspect, critically injured during a police encounter in North Karachi, has died during treatment. All three suspects, identified as hired assassins, had traveled from Punjab with the intent to kill shop owner Yaqub and his son Jehanzaib. The Khawaja Ajmer Nagri police registered a case against the suspects on Yaqub’s complaint under charges of attempted murder, robbery, police encounter, and terrorism-related Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA).

According to DSP Salman Waheed, the suspects were identified via biometric verification as Gulfam, Kashif Waqas, and the injured suspect, As Mohammad. Police recovered critical evidence from the suspects’ mobile phones, including travel tickets to Punjab, indicating plans to flee after the crime.

On Monday night, four armed men on two motorcycles opened fire at the milk shop owner and his son. Police reached the scene promptly, killing two suspects on the spot, injuring a third, and arresting him. The fourth suspect managed to escape. Preliminary investigations revealed that Yaqub, belonging to the Mew community, had an ongoing dispute in Punjab. The individual who hired the assassins was identified as Ashfaq, who continues to issue threats to Yaqub. The deceased suspects had a criminal history, with multiple cases registered against them in Punjab.

Two of them, Gulfam and Kashif Waqas, were also involved in a robbery case reported last year at the Saudabad police station. Yaqub stated in his testimony that the attackers were shouting, “You didn’t treat Ashfaq well,” as they fired at his shop. During the incident, one suspect entered a nearby shop and stole cash and a mobile phone while others continued firing.

The Khawaja Ajmer Nagri police registered case number 35/2025 under Sections 392, 397, 394, 535, 324, 109, 34, and Section 7 of the ATA. The investigation has been handed over to the police, with Karachi and Punjab police working closely to uncover further details. Police officials have indicated that more revelations are expected as the investigation continues.
