KABUL – A high-level delegation, led by Pakistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, Mohammad Sadiq, held important talks with Afghan officials in Kabul.

The sources said that the recent visit of the Pakistani delegation to Kabul was part of an effort to give diplomacy another chance in resolving the issue of terrorism.

During their stay in Kabul, the Pakistani delegation held meetings with Afghan Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani and Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi.

The sources said that lengthy discussions took place during a dinner meeting between both sides.

The Pakistani delegation addressed the security situation, cross-border terrorism in Pakistan, the presence of terrorist hideouts in Afghanistan and other related matters.

The Afghan Ministry of Interior said that the Pakistani delegation discussed the bilateral issues and cooperation in various sectors during their meeting with the Interior Minister. They emphasized the need for joint efforts for peace, security and economic growth, and also discussed important issues aimed at further improving bilateral relations and addressing existing challenges.

On this occasion, the Pakistani delegation expressed condolences on behalf of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar over the martyrdom of Khalil Ur Rehman Haqqani, offering sympathy to the martyr’s family and the Afghan people, and prayed for the elevation of the martyr’s rank.

Special Representative Mohammad Sadiq stated that Pakistan is committed to resolving the existing issues between both Pakistan and Afghanistan through the joint efforts, with an objective to streamline the bilateral economic and public ties.

Sirajuddin Haqqani welcomed the guests and highlighted the religious, cultural and historical values shared by the two neighboring countries. He stressed that the current situation demands efforts to resolve bilateral security and political issues, safeguard mutual relations, and expedite efforts for regional stability and development.

After the meeting, both sides emphasized the need to continue cooperation and the reconciliation process to improve relations. The Pakistani delegation will continue its meetings with Afghan officials today.
