Mobile industry in Pakistan saw considerable growth in recent years, but with sky-high prices of devices, the growing trend of IMEI Patch phones and JV crack phones has also seen, with high-end devices being sold at unreal prices.
Amid the alarming trend, PTA shared a new alert for public about counterfeit mobile phones and is urging buyers to remain cautious and prefer original devices.
To protect consumers, the telecom authority recommends only buying phones from reputable sellers and ensuring phones come with an official warranty. In its advisory, PTA urged people to check for PTA stamp on phone’s packaging and verify that IMEI number matches.
It mentioned that all devices should ideally be purchased in their original packaging. Those who are getting their hand on these devices should compare the IMEI number on the phone’s box with the one in the phone’s settings menu, as each IMEI number is a unique identifier for a device, PTA said.
