An accountability court delayed the indictment of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President and Leader of the Opposition in Punjab Assembly Muhammad Hamza Shahbaz Sharif in Ramzan Sugar Mills case till April 10.
Accountability Judge Amjad Nazir Chaudhry presided over Friday’s proceedings while Hamza was not produced before the court due to coronavirus outbreak in the country. Hamza was to be indicted on Friday.
PML-N President Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, who is also accused in the case, did not appear in the court however, his lawyer Mohammad Nawaz Advocate was present in the court.
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has filed a reference against Shahbaz Sharif and Hamza Shahbaz, alleging the former chief minister Punjab misused his authority and got constructed a 10-km sludge carrier in district Chiniot to facilitate Ramzan Sugar Mills, owned by his sons. The bureau alleged that the step inflicted a loss of Rs. 213 million to the national exchequer.
The anti-graft buster further alleged that the approval of the construction was given on a fake application filed by the then MPA Maulana Rehmatullah, showing the drain as a public project and public funds were misused for the benefit of the Sharif’s family business.
