A good news for the public as the Punjab Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department on Tuesday announced that they will not charge a fee for number plates of motorcycles and cars.
“The citizens now can order their number plates from the local markets as per the government’s designs,” announced the Punjab Excise Department.
The citizens used to pay Rs1500 for registration of the motorcycles and Rs2000 for the cars but now they will not pay the fee for computerized number plates.
Previously, the provincial excise department had charged over 2.5 million people but failed to provide number plates despite passage of three years’ long period. The citizens used to buy duplicate number plates for their vehicles during this time.
The people faced huge troubles for not getting number plates from the department.
“This is a good step. Because now we will be able to get number plates from the markets at our ease,” said a citizen while reacting to the government’s decision. He said, “Unfortunately, I couldn’t get the number plates of my two motorcycles despite the fact that they [the department] charged me,”.The sources claimed that the decision was taken after an agreement between the department and a local company came to an end.
According to the Exercise department officials, the decision was taken by keeping in view the troubles of the citizens.
