ISLAMABAD – The personal information of more than two million people was stolen from the system of the National Database Registration Authority (Nadra) during 2019 to 2023 and later moved to Dubai, revealed an investigation report.

Reports said the startling revelations were made in a report prepared by the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) formed in March 2023 to probe the serious breach of data in Nadra.

The report has been submitted to the Ministry of Interior, recommending stern action against various officers of Nadra for showing negligence that led to the data theft incident.

It revealed that data was theft from the Multan, Karachi, and Peshawar offices of Nadra, Geo News reported.

The JIT report further revealed that the data stolen from the Nadra system was apparently later sold in Argentina and Romania.

The matter related to data theft surfaced after personal information of senior military officials was leaked online.
