MUZAFFARABAD – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Azad Kashmir has issued an arrest warrant for PTI bigwig Ali Amin Gandapur for allegedly violating the code of conduct in 2021 elections.

The commission has sent a letter to the deputy commission of Dera Ismail Khan, requesting the arrest the former minister in the case.

In the letter, the PTI leader has been directed to appear before the ECP Azad Kashmir on February 28. The action was taken on the petition filed by lawyer Raja Zulqarnain against him during the 2021 election.

The development comes days after the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan nominated party leader Ali Amin Gandapur for the slot of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister after elections 2024.

Khan, who is serving his sentence in various cases at the Adiala Jail, told the media in an informal discussion on Tuesday.

Gandapur clinched the seat in NA-44 Dera Ismail Khan-I constituency by defeating Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman. He received 92,244 votes in the February 8 elections.

Provisional results shared by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) showed the independent candidates mostly backed by the PTI won the 90 seats followed by the JUI-P with seven seats. PML-N secured five seats while the PPP won the four seats.
