The Punjab Police has initiated the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to identify and penalize motorcycle riders without helmets in the province. A groundbreaking software developed by the Safe Cities Authority enables the tracking of helmetless riders using CCTV cameras.
IG Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, announced the implementation of this innovative technology to enforce traffic rules effectively. The AI-based software, crafted by SSP Rafat Bukhari under the leadership of MD Safe Cities Ahsan Younis, will play a pivotal role in ensuring that citizens adhere to traffic regulations.
Motorcyclists detected without helmets by the software will face fines, as mandated by Lahore High Court orders, requiring a payment of Rs. 2,000 for riding without a helmet.
