Cold wave persists in Islamabad, parts of Pakistan

ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted the prevailing cold wave to persist in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and parts of Pakistan during the next two days.
As per the synoptic situation, continental air prevails over most parts of Pakistan.
A shallow westerly wave will likely enter the southwestern parts of the country tomorrow evening/night.
Under these conditions, mainly cold and dry weather is expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and most parts of Pakistan on Thursday evening/night, Friday and Saturday.
Freezing and partly cloudy weather is expected in northern areas of the country.
Light to moderate rain with snowfall over mountains is likely in southwestern Balochistan.
Dense fog/smog will likely persist in Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa plains and upper Sindh.
Frost is likely to prevail in the Potohar region and Kashmir during morning hours.
Islamabad’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 01-03 degrees Celsius on Friday and 00-02 C on Saturday.
Rawalpindi’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 01-03 C on Friday and 00-02 C on Saturday.
Meanwhile, a cold wave prevailed in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and parts of the country during the last 24 hours.
Freezing weather prevailed in northern areas.
Leh remained the coldest place in the country where mercury dropped 12 C below freezing.
In Islamabad, the minimum temperature was recorded at 01 C.
Relative humidity during the morning was recorded at 78 per cent.
In Rawalpindi, the minimum temperature was recorded at 02 C.
Relative humidity during the morning was recorded at 72 per cent.
Dense fog/smog forced the closure of Motorways and disrupted traffic on the National Highway.
