Islamabad, Rawalpindi weather update; Twin cities in grip of heavy smog, cold wave

Dense fog continues to blanket the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, causing disruptions in air and road travel. The fog hovers on key highways, including Islamabad Expressway, other regions. Along with bone-chilling temperature, the fog enveloped several commercial and residential areas on Saturday.

The twin cities faced limited visibility, leading to slow traffic on Islamabad highway. Met Office also forecast mainly cold and dry weather for the provincial capital and parts of Punjab over the weekend.

As per the synoptic situation, a shallow westerly wave is present over western parts of Balochistan۔ Under these conditions, mainly cold and dry weather is expected in the city over the weekend.

Motorway Fog Update

Fog is expected to disrupt traffic flow on portions of Motorway and National Highway.

In other parts of the country, cold and dry weather prevailed across Punjab during the last 24 hours.

Dense fog/smog is likely to persist in Bahawalpur, Sahiwal, Okara, Kasur, Lahore, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Mangla, Faisalabad, Jhang, Sargodha, Mandi Bahauddin, Toba Tek Singh, Khanewal, Multan, Khanpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Hafizabad, Bhakkar, Layyah, Dera Ghazi Khan and surrounding. Frost is likely to be observed in Potohar region during morning hours.
