Health experts have underscored thecritical importance of early detection and effective management of diabetes to prevent complications and improve the quality of life. This essential message was conveyed during a Diabetes Awareness Program organized by the Diabetes and Endocrinology Department at Mercy Teaching Hospital (MTH), with a primary focus on educating the community about diabetes, prevention, care, and management.
Dr. Faheemullah, the Head of the Diabetes and Endocrinology Department at MTH, inaugurated the program with an informative discussion about diabetes. He shed light on the various factors contributing to diabetes, including lifestyle choices, poor dietary habits, lack of exercise, and effective management.
Dr. Nida Iftikhar highlighted the alarming increase in diabetes cases in Pakistan, with an estimated one out of every 11 individuals affected.
She warned that without preventive measures, this number is projected to rise significantly by 2045. Dr. Nida also discussed the different types of diabetes and the associated complications.
Dr. Umar provided valuable insights into insulin management and its pivotal role in controlling blood sugar levels.
