Operation against power pilferers continues

The Lahore Electric Supply Company’s anti power theft operation was ongoing vigorously in the LESCO region while 21 more power pilferers were arrested on Sunday.

According to LESCO spokesman here, the operation was being carried out as per the direction of caretaker prime minister and the energy ministry. He said that on 18th day of anti power theft operation, 462 connections were found involved in electricity theft. Applications for FIRs against 460 power thieves had been submitted in relevant police stations out of which 203 FIRs got registered. Connections which had been caught include 1 industrial, 3 agriculture, 19 commercial and 439 domestic, he added. Spokesman further said that all connections had been disconnected and 722,375 units had been charged under the head of detection bill. He said these units cost Rs 37,879,488 and added that big agriculture and commercial consumers had also been found involved in power theft during the ongoing crackdown against power thieves. As per details, agriculture consumer in Baseerpur had been charged 10,000 detection units worth Rs 1,000,000. A commerical consumer at Nazampura Sheikhupura Road had been charged 9,800 detection units worth Rs 700,00. Agriculture consumer in Nasir Muridke had been charged 13,683 detection units worth Rs 424203 and a domestic consumer in Ferozwala had been charged 4729 detection units worth Rs 400000. During 18 days of anti theft campaign in LESCO region 8216 connections had been checked while applications for FIRs had been submitted against 7566 out of which 6253 applications got registered. Total 499 accussed had been arrested and till now 17,641,120 detection units had been charged from power pilferers which cost Rs 694,230,600. It is pertinent to mention that operation against power thieves is ongoing as per the direction of Federal Power Division while LESCO Chief Executive Engineer Shahid Haider was supervising the operation. Shahid Haider said that operation against power thieves would continue till eradication of all power pilferers.
