The Grand Mufti of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam, welcoming the release of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq from his illegal house detention after four years, has hoped that other political detainees languishing in different jails will also be released soon.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam in a statement issued in Srinagar said, “It is a welcome step by the authorities to release Mirwaiz Umar Farooq from house detention and allow him to lead Friday prayers at the historic Srinagar Jamia Masjid.”
“I can only hope that this decision indicates the change in the stance of the authorities towards the political prisoners put behind the bars from time to time”, he said adding, “Hope the authorities will also release other Hurriyat leaders soon.”
The Grand Mufti in the meantime urged the Indian government to lift restrictions on passports of many citizens of Kashmir. “There are many people whose passports have been withheld by the authorities and I urge them to lift these restrictions to allow hassle free movement,” Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam added.—KMS
