A woman flour seeker was killed and 43 others were injured in police baton-charge at a free flour distribution centre set up at the Quaid-e-Azam Stadium on Tuesday. Rescue officials said hundreds of people had gathered at the stadium to get flour bags and mismanagement made things difficult for the visitors. As the situation worsened, police resorted to baton-charge of the crowd as a result of which a woman died and several others were injured. The injured had been shifted to the DHQ hospital. The Sahiwal deputy commissioner and the district police officer also visited the spot.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident happened when police could not control the rush of the public. Flour was not being distributed due to closure of the app over which police started shoving people out. The incident took place owing to mismanagement and flawed arrangements for free wheat flour distribution among under-previliged persons.
