On the direction of Provincial Minister EPD M Rizwan, a meeting was held in EPD’s committee room to review the action plan against Pyrolisis plants in the province on Tuesday. The meeting co-chaired by ADS EPD Khadija-tul-Kubra and DG EPA Tanveer Warraich, ADS EPD briefed to the participants that it was decided in the meeting of cabinet sub-committee that district administration and Local Government will abolish Pyrolysis plants especially in district Lahore and purpose of this meeting was to chalk out a comprehensive action plan to closure of all Pyrolysis plants and stoppage of use of cut tyres by Pyrolisis plants.
EPA DO Aijaz Ali briefed the chair that there were six Pyrolisis plants in Lahore, already sealed all plants by EPA. There were 13 resource cycling units in Lahore, also sealed by EPA but some complaints coming that near RAVI in night illegally open burning of tyres continued and EPA informed the district administration for action. He further briefed that presently there were 17 lead extracting units functioning in Lahore, field officer has sealed 16 units while lodged 5 FIRs against the violators while the remaining one unit was operating as stay had been granted by the court.
The representative of district administration briefed the chair that more complaints were coming from Gujranwala and Sheikhupura, where letters had been already written to concerned DCs for further action. Representatives of police told the chair that the Police Department will fully cooperate with the administration and in this regard, letters will be written to DPOs.
