ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has urged the top Muslim body Organisation of Islamic Cooperation to arrange an emergency meeting to draw international attention to the devastating situation in Turkey where more than 45,000 people were killed after catastrophic earthquakes.
In his latest interaction with the Turkish state-run news agency, the premier called for OIC moot at the earliest for a relief package for Turkish people.
Pakistani PM, who is in Turkey on a solidarity visit, remained vocal as the death toll climbed 45,000 with hundreds of thousands of residential buildings destroyed in a recent earthquake dubbed as the worst modern disaster.
Organisation of Islamic Cooperation should convene a meeting to play its role as the country needed their support, he said, urging world leaders to contribute to the rehabilitation of the Turkish populace.

He also warned that such a situation could arise somewhere else, pushing the international community to accept the challenge with collective efforts. He further commended the Turkish President who is leading from the front along with his team.
He pinned hope at the Turkish people’s courage to convert the massive destruction into a wonderful construction. He termed Islamabad and Ankara like ‘two souls and one heart,’ reiterating Pakistan’s contributions amid hard times.
