Local sources in the northeastern Afghan province of Badakhshan say that a man allegedly intended to kill the brother of his ex-wife but ended up killing his ex-wife and mother-in-law when he could not find him in the house.

The sources said that the incident took place in a village in the Kohistan district of Badakhshan on Saturday night, October 1, at around 10 o’clock. The source also stated that the man in question was named Abdul Qadir and that he recently divorced his wife.

The man allegedly went to his ex-wife’s home with the intent of killing his brother-in-law. However, he shot his ex-wife and mother-in-law while his brother-in-law was away.

The Taliban district governor for the Kohistan district, Mawlawi Abdullah Osmani, also confirmed the death of these two women and attributed the crime to the killer’s “ignorance and anger.” According to the Taliban official, Osmani, Abdul Qadir’s ex-wife was rumored to be engaged to be married to someone else.
