Doctors, staff feel insecure while performing duties

The staff of Taluka Hospital Jati district Sujawal feels insecure while performing their duties as the incidents of misbehavior and maltreatment with the staff are increasing with every passing day. This correspondent visited the Hospital to seek the views of staff about the prevailing state of affairs on Saturday.

Multiple causes had led to such an unpredictable situation at the Taluka Hospital meant to facilitate a huge population, prominent among those were lack of awareness, the influence of local pressure groups, and shortage of medicine and staff.

Around four incidents of misbehavior and maltreatment with doctors and paramedics have been reported at the hospital during the past three weeks causing unrest among the doctors, paramedics, and the lower staff.

The attendants of the patients in collision with the pressure groups of the area try to harass on-duty staff even over petty issues.

While sharing his views with The Minute Mirror about the situation Dr. Yameen Shah Medical Superintendent of the Taluka hospital said that he had taken all efforts to provide quality healthcare facilities to the people of this area but their intolerance and rowdiness of public had halted his vision adding that lower staff approached him for protection but he too was helpless in such a situation.

“After the public-private partnership was dissolved I took adamant efforts to bring the hospital back on the track but the reckless attitude of attendants might lead to mismanagement’’; held MS Medical Store-Keeper at the hospital requesting anonymity revealed that the majority of attendants arriving at the hospital were either uneducated or less educated who converging at their whims wanted immediate relief for their patients. “ Sometimes hold me responsible for drug shortages and hurl abuse at me. We are performing our duties under abject fear”; he complained.
