Glaciers are direct indicator of the climate change which have become a serious concern for world life. Unfortunately we are facing some serious collapse in climate change throughout the country and Pakistan is amongst top 10 natures in the world affected with climate change & temperature.
This was said by Dr. Ghulam Muhammad Ali Chairman PARC on the occasion of three days training workshop on “remote sensing and field – based glacier and snow monitoring” being organized by PARC in collaboration with International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development.
The Chairman more added to the participants that being a agriculture country we depend on our rivers and about 80% river water we use in agriculture for crop production, livelihood of animals. With increase in global temperature, mountains are more effects of warming as compare to the plain.
Warming is causing the nature to melt quickly which may cause flood and other disasters. I would like to appreciate ICMOD aiming to build the capacity of students and professionals, especially in those parts of the region where glacier and snow monitoring is limited. The information obtained will be shared with decision-making bodies, and other stakeholders, in order to make timely assessments of water availability and glacier-related hazards.
