Pakistan Agricultural Research Council, Ministry of National Food Security & Research convened a Webinar on “UN States Food Systems Pre-Summit 2021” under government of Pakistan’s preparations for the upcoming “United Nations Food Systems Summit- 2021” which is going to be conducted in September 2021 at United Nations.
Federal Secretary for Ministry of National Food Security & Research, Mr. Ghufran Memon was also present.
Releasing statement from Pakistan for UN Food Systems Summit 2021 in a Webinar with member states and other stakeholders, Federal Minister NFS&R, Syed Fakhar Imam said that Pakistan’s agriculture is fifth of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and employs more than 38% of the country labor force.
Despite all this, Pakistan is facing food insecurity challenges like malnutrition which has strong implications on human capital development.
Pakistan has perceived UN Food Systems Summit 2021 as an opportunity to review progress on sustainable development goals (SDGs) challenges in achieving global targets by 2030 and adopted an inclusive and comprehensive process for preparation to represent in the Summit.
He also added that Pakistan established the UN Food Systems Summit secretariat at Pakistan Agricultural Research Council and diverse range of experts engaged for developing technical working papers on the Five Action Tracks which include; ensure access to safe and nutritious food, Shift to sustainable consumption patterns, boost nature positive production, advance equitable livestock and build resilience to vulnerabilities/shocks/stress; One of the most important proposals is to set up an Agriculture Innovation Fund to support the creative systems across all Action Tracks to provide financial & technical support to the initiatives that assist Pakistan in implementing the proposed innovative solutions.
Prime Minister Imran and his team are committed towards achieving zero hunger and other Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for Pakistan’s population and are happy to join the global movements and the initiatives to create an enabling environment to facilitate the states in achieving their targets globally.
