The Senior Office World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF Pakistan) Adeel Younas on Thursday has said that smog was a quite genuine problem which not only had deteriorated the environment but had also caused serious threats to the public health. While addressing to a session on ‘problems caused by smog’ under the auspices of WWF Pakistan, the City Traffic Police and the Punjab Department of Environment Protection, Adeel Younas further said that smog was generally hazardous for everyone, particularly for those who stayed outside due to the certain nature of their jobs or duties like the traffic police personnel.
The DSP Sialkot City Traffic Police Mazahr Farid, District Officer (DO) Environment Ch Imtiaz Ahmed, Muhammad Noor Ahmed, Junaid Aftab and a number of the traffic police personnel were also present on the occasion. Senior Officer wwf Adeel Younas said that the traffic police personnel must be helped and assisted not only by the government, but the non-governmental sectors also as they were more vulnerable to smog apart from the fact that they had been facing severe heat and cold because of their job of managing the flow of traffic.
He said that WWF Pakistan was trying to help the traffic police personnel by providing them surgical face masks and by conducting sessions to raise awareness against smog among them. He viewed that the surgical face mask must be declared as an essential part of the uniforms of the traffic police personnel. He also briefed about the causes and effects of smog and also highlighted certain measures and steps to mitigate it.
