873 candidates file papers for Tehsil Mayor

As many as 873 candidates filed nomination papers for the offices of Tehsil Mayor and Chairmen in 65 Tehsil Councils in the second phase of the local bodies’ elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, said a press release issued by the Provincial Election Commission (PEC) here Sunday.

Similarly, in 1830 village and neighbourhood Councils, 15366 candidates have filed their nomination papers for the general seats while 3488 have filed nomination papers for women seats, 7016 for Labourer/ Peasant seats, 6006 for Youth and 120 for Minorities’ seats.

The crucial phase of the scrutiny of nomination papers is beginning tomorrow on February 21, which will continue for three days till February 23. All Returning Officers (ROs) will make decision on the approval or rejection of nominations during official time period from 9:00 A.M to 5:00 P.M in their respective districts.

During the scrutiny, the concerned candidates along with their proposer and seconder will appear before the ROs. The decision of the RO could be challenged in the Appellate Tribunal, which could be filed during the period from 24 to 26 February. Polling for second phase of Local Bodies’ elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would be held in 18 districts including four newly merged districts of the erstwhile FATA, Orakzai, Kurram.
