2 ‘unidentified’ assailants gunned down in sector D-12 of Islamabad

Islamabad: Two “unidentified” assailants who allegedly shot at police were gunned down by the Islamabad Capital Territory Police in the D-12 sector of the federal capital late on Wednesday night, police officials said.

According to a statement by the ICT Police, two unidentified armed suspects on a motorcycle had opened fire at police barricade D-12, adding that police personnel remained unharmed due to the “safety measures” taken by them.

The “injured attackers were shifted to a hospital but they could not survive”, the police said, without explaining how the suspects were wounded. It added that efforts to identify the suspects were underway.

It alleged that the suspects “opened fire as soon as they saw the police while all cars were being checked strictly” at the checkpoint.

In December last year, a suicide bomber blew himself up when he was stopped by the patrolling police in the I-10 sector of Islamabad, killing a policeman while six others sustained injuries.
