LAHORE – Major boost to transform classrooms across Punjab, atleast 10,000 private college students are about to get laptops under a major initiative by Chief Minister.
The provincial administration aims to bridge digital divide, giving students the tools they need to excel in a modern, tech-driven world. From upgraded schools to early childhood classrooms and merit-based appointments, this is just one part of Punjab’s sweeping effort to reshape education.
In bold move to revolutionize education, Punjab government announced expansion of its laptop distribution scheme to include students from private schools, with 10,000 laptops set to be handed out under this groundbreaking initiative, Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat revealed.
Minister declared that 2025 has been officially designated as the Year of Education, continuing the ambitious reform agenda launched last year. The government’s mission, he said, is to drastically improve access, quality, and governance in the education sector.
He further highlighted several major achievements, saying nearly 20Lac ghost enrolments have been eliminated, and teacher shortages have been addressed through the rationalization of 26,000 teaching posts. Cutting-edge reforms have also been introduced, including updated syllabi, revamped examination systems, and the shift to e-marking by education boards.
Early childhood education has been placed at the forefront, with 10,000 Early Childhood Education rooms established across the province. Meanwhile, the government’s nutrition programme continues to serve around 1.1 million students daily, ensuring healthier, more focused learners.
268 schools have been upgraded, and 37 harassment complaints against teachers have been resolved. Meritocracy has also taken center stage, with principals appointed in 450 colleges and vice-chancellors in 29 universities based strictly on merit under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
