President Asif Ali Zardari has resigned from the chairmanship of the Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians.

Sources say Asif Zardari, who is first civilian to become president of the country for second time, has informed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) about his resignation from the presidency of the Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians.

Who Can Replace Him as PPPP President?

Sources further revealed that after Asif Zardari’s resignation from the party presidency, there is consideration being given to appointing Asif Zardari’s sister and provincial assembly member Faryal Talpur as the new president of the Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians.

Reason Behind The Resignation?

Asif Zardari’s resignation from the party comes at a time when some quarters are criticising him for leading a political party despite being the President of the country.

Zardari Sets New History

A widower of slain prime minister Benazir Bhutto, Zardari defeated Mahmood Khan Achakzai, who was backed by the Sunni Ittehad Council, in the presidential election earlier this year.

Zardari, the seasoned politician of Pakistan, was supported by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and coalition parties in the election.

His election marks a historic milestone as he has become only politician to serve as the President of Pakistan for the second time.
