Will Matric students soon study technical, agriculture subjects in Pakistan?

ISLAMABAD – A proposal has been put forward to introduce two new academic streams—Technical and Agriculture—at the matriculation level across Pakistan.

In this regard, the Inter-Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) has called a consultative meeting to discuss the grouping of subjects and alternative pathways for higher education. The meeting is scheduled to be held in Islamabad on December 23.

The agenda will also include reviewing eligibility criteria for admissions in intermediate pre-medical and pre-engineering groups. Discussions will cover equivalence of alternative subjects at the matric level, as well as recognition of foreign educational qualifications.

The meeting will further address general and vocational training education and explore how students enrolled in matric-level technical and agriculture streams could become eligible for medical and engineering admissions.

Besides it, the formation of a national working group for educational reforms has been proposed and included in the meeting agenda.
