Who Will Be New Hec Chairman As Three Names Finalised

ISLAMABAD – The search committee for the appointment of the chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) has forwarded a summary with three potential candidates to the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for final approval.

Reports said the committee, led by Federal Minister for Education Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, conducted interviews to assess the suitability of candidates for the prestigious position.

The three names recommended for consideration in the summary include Dr. Sarosh Hashmat Lodhi, former Vice Chancellor of NED University; Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar, the current Vice Chancellor of Quaid-i-Azam University; and Dr. Muhammad Ali Shah, the Vice Chancellor of Punjab University.

As of now, the position of HEC Chairman has been vacant since July, with Nadeemm Mehmood, Secretary of the Ministry of Education, serving as the acting chairman.

The prime minister is expected to select one of the recommended candidates for approval to take over the responsibilities of HEC Chairman.

The appointment of a permanent HEC Chairman is expected to have a significant impact on the country’s higher education sector, as the role plays a crucial part in shaping the future of academic institutions in Pakistan.

The Higher Education Commission of Pakistan is an independent, autonomous, and constitutionally established institution of primary funding, overseeing, regulating, and accrediting the higher education efforts in the country.
