West Indies cricket team head coach Darren Sammy has spoken out for the first time regarding the alleged sexual assault accusations against one of his players, stating that justice must prevail, but through the correct legal process.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of the second Test match against Australia in Grenada, Darren Sammy said, “We are all aware of the reports circulating in the media. I am very close to my players and have spoken to them about their mental well-being.”

He added, “Let me be clear — we believe in justice, and this community believes in fulfilling the requirements of justice. However, there is a proper process for that, and we will continue to cooperate fully to ensure the matter is handled through the correct legal channels. As a cricket board and as head coach, I want justice for everyone,”.

Sammy emphasized, “At this stage, these are merely allegations, and we must have faith in the justice system and wait for the proper procedure to unfold,”.

When asked about the allegations, which are reportedly two years old, Sammy responded, “I don’t have any information about that.”

Asked whether Cricket West Indies (CWI) should conduct its own investigation, Sammy said, “I can’t comment on that, but I’m sure the board is taking the necessary steps to ensure the proper procedure is followed,”.

A spokesperson for Cricket West Indies stated, “CWI has not received any official notification or contact regarding the matter, so no comment can be made at this time,”.

Last week, the Guyanese newspaper Kaieteur News reported that several women have accused a West Indies cricketer of sexual misconduct, with some incidents reportedly dating back to 2023. However, no formal charges have been filed against the player so far.
