ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday extended Pakistan’s full support behind Iran, telling President Masoud Pezeshkian that Islamabad would “never let you down” as the two leaders met in Islamabad following the Pakistan-mediated agreement that helped end the recent US-Iran conflict.
Addressing a joint press briefing, PM Shehbaz described President Pezeshkian as a “visionary and sagacious leader” who guided Iran through one of the most challenging periods in its recent history with patience, wisdom and composure.

Calling the visit a “historic moment” in Pakistan-Iran relations, the premier welcomed the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding signed between Tehran and Washington, saying the agreement had averted a conflict that could have engulfed the entire region and beyond.
“It is a matter of great happiness that this war has come to an end,” he said, expressing hope that the arrangement would open a new chapter of peace, stability and prosperity across the region.
The prime minister highlighted Pakistan’s role as an “honest and sincere mediator” in the peace process and thanked the Iranian leadership for placing its trust in Islamabad’s diplomatic efforts.
Earlier, during delegation-level talks, PM Shehbaz delivered a strong message of solidarity to Tehran, assuring President Pezeshkian that Pakistan would continue standing by Iran as a brotherly nation.
“I want to assure you that as brothers, we will never let you down,” the premier said, adding that Pakistan would continue working to ensure a durable peace based on dignity and honour.
He also praised Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei for his leadership during the crisis and commended the Iranian people for displaying unity and resilience in the face of adversity.
PM Shehbaz extended condolences over the thousands of lives lost during the conflict, including women, children and senior Iranian leaders. He said the sacrifices and courage shown by the Iranian nation had earned widespread respect.
The premier also highlighted the role played by Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, crediting him with making a significant contribution to efforts that eventually led to the ceasefire and the Pakistan-facilitated agreement.
According to PM Shehbaz, the military chief worked tirelessly throughout the crisis with the sole objective of preventing a wider war that could have devastated large parts of the region.
The prime minister further acknowledged the diplomatic efforts of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Qatar for supporting negotiations and helping advance the peace process.
President Pezeshkian, who arrived in Islamabad on an official visit, was welcomed with a guard of honour at the Prime Minister’s House before holding bilateral and delegation-level talks with Pakistani officials.
