Security On High Alert In Lahore After Islamabad Court Bombing

LAHORE – Following the suicide bombing at Islamabad’s district court, security in Lahore has been significantly tightened.

Authorities have deployed additional law enforcement personnel at key entry and exit points to ensure public safety across the provincial capital.

In response to the incident, the security around Lahore High Court, along with other subordinate courts, has been strengthened.

Extra personnel have been stationed at various locations, including marketplaces, bus stations, railway stations, and the city’s airport, to prevent any potential threats.

Moreover, law enforcement agencies have intensified protection around sensitive government buildings and high-profile personalities in the region. The Punjab Police have ensured that additional patrols are conducted, particularly in crowded and high-traffic areas.

To further address concerns, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab held a meeting with the Chief Justice of Lahore High Court. During this meeting, the security measures for the courts were reviewed, leading to an official directive for enhanced safety protocols at all judicial premises.

A day earlier, at least 12 people were killed and 27 others injured in a suicide blast carried out by “Fitna al-Khawarij,” a proxy group allegedly backed by Indian-sponsored and Afghan Taliban-linked elements, outside the district courts in Islamabad’s G-11 sector on Tuesday.

The initial reports suggested the explosion occurred just outside the court premises, hitting people standing nearby.

The rescue officials said nine people were confirmed dead while at least 21 others sustained injuries in the powerful blast.

However, the latest reports suggested that 12 people were killed and more than 20 people were injured including lawyers and litigants.

Police sources said the explosion was a suicide attack, and the severed head of the suspected bomber was recovered from the road. The attacker reportedly attempted to enter the court premises but detonated the explosives near a police vehicle when stopped by security personnel.

Following the blast, an emergency was declared at PIMS Hospital, where rescue teams and police vehicles continued to shift the injured. Rescue 1122 and other ambulance services were also engaged in transporting victims to the hospital.

Heavy contingents of police reached both the blast site and PIMS Hospital to assist in relief operations and maintain order. Forensic teams were called to collect evidence from the scene.

Among the injured were three police officers who were stationed near the entrance of the district courts.
