Rawalpindi is set to witness major security and traffic arrangements as Chehlum processions of Hazrat Imam Hussain (R.A) will be taken out on Tuesday, August 4, with authorities placing key areas under strict monitoring to ensure peaceful observance of the religious event.
The district administration issued a detailed procession plan, identifying two major routes that will pass through important city roads and commercial areas.
The first procession will move through the central city route, starting from Committee Chowk and passing through NBP Murree Road, DAV College Chowk, Fawara Chowk, Mashriq Hotel, Novelty Cinema, Ganjmandi Road, Hamilton Chowk, Bansanwala Chowk, Pul Shah Nazar, Pir Chuha Chowk, Liaquat Bagh Chowk and Rialto Chowk.
The second procession will begin from Imambargah Yadgar-e-Hussaini in Commercial Market and pass through 5th Road Asghar Mall, Jahangir Balti, Kandam CNG, Punjab College of Commerce, Kali Tanki Chowk, National Market, Hayat Wali Hospital, Asghar Mall Chowk, Sheikh Tikka House, Aziz Nursing Home, Banni Market, Circular Road Banni Chowk, Kohati Bazar, Charpai Chowk, Roshan Bakery and Kali Tanki.
Local Holiday Declared in Rawalpindi
In view of the Chehlum procession, the Rawalpindi administration has announced a local holiday on Tuesday, August 4.
According to the notification issued by the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, all government and private educational institutions, including schools, colleges and universities operating within the municipal limits of Tehsil Rawalpindi, will remain closed.
However, educational institutions located in cantonment areas will not be included in the holiday notification and will continue their regular academic activities.
As part of the security strategy, authorities have ordered the closure of markets, shops and commercial centres located along the procession routes and surrounding areas.
Officials said the measures are aimed at ensuring the smooth movement of processions, controlling traffic flow and maintaining law and order during the religious gathering.
