LAHORE – The moon of Shaban has been sighted across Pakistan, officially marking the first day of the Islamic month today (January 21) with people now looking to know when the Ramadan 2026 will start.
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, revered as a time of spiritual reflection, fasting, and prayer.
Muslims around the world observe fasting from dawn until sunset, abstaining from food, drink, and worldly desires. The month is a time for self-discipline, charity, and strengthening faith. It culminates in the celebration of Eidul Fitr, a festival marking the end of fasting and a time for communal prayers and feasts.

If Shaban lasts for 29 days, the first day of Ramadan will fall on February 19, 2026. However, if Shaban spans 30 days, Ramadan will begin on February 20, 2026.
The final confirmation of Ramadan’s start date will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, which will hold a meeting at the end of Shaban to review testimonies and make the decision based on moon sightings.
