Punjab has completed more than 15,000 free cardiac surgeries under the Chief Minister’s Children Heart Surgery Programme since its launch in September 2024.
Children from across Punjab as well as other parts of the country have benefitted from this initiative.
The progress was highlighted during a meeting chaired by Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) Chairman Faisal Yousaf at Arfa Software Technology Park (ASTP).
Officials said the Hospital Management Information System (HMIS), developed by PITB, has provided crucial digital support to the programme.
The HMIS enables hospitals to manage patients’ medical records, prepare surgery lists, make electronic referrals to private hospitals and coordinate treatment between public and private healthcare facilities.
The digital platform has also given participating hospitals across Punjab rapid access to patient records, helping doctors make informed clinical decisions while improving administrative coordination. It has further streamlined the referral and treatment process, making it more organised, transparent and integrated.
Faisal Yousaf described the completion of over 15,000 surgeries as a major achievement of the programme, saying HMIS had helped speed up treatment and improve coordination through digital records, electronic referrals and communication between hospitals.
He added that PITB would continue promoting digital solutions in the healthcare sector to facilitate timely and quality medical services for citizens.
