KARACHI – The 45th anniversary of the founder of Pakistan Peoples Party and former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto is being celebrated today.
Pakistan Peoples’Party (PPP) and it’s jiyalas will hold simple ceremonies across the country in respect of the holy month of Ramadan.
According to details, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, the democratically elected Prime Minister of Pakistan, was born on January 5, 1928, in Larkana. He received higher education from the University of California and Oxford and pursued a career in law.
Zulfikar Ali Bhutto founded the Pakistan Peoples Party in 1967 and raised the slogan of ‘Roti, Kapra aur Makan’.
He quickly gained popularity among the masses and succeeded in gaining their full confidence in general elections. He served as a member of Skindar Mirza’s cabinet and later as the Foreign Minister during Ayub Khan’s era.
During the PPP’s tenure in power, the Constitution of Pakistan was drafted, the nuclear program was initiated, steel mills and national production institutions were established, but questions were raised on the policy of nationalization of industries.
On April 4, 1979, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was hanged on a judicial verdict and wrapped up the canvas of public politics.
Last month, the Supreme Court acquitted Zulfikar Ali Bhutto in the presidential reference, but justice is still pending.
Instead of gatherings in respect of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s anniversary, Holy Quran recitation and Fateha is being offered at the PPP’s district headquarters across the country in respect of Ramadan.
