ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Irfan Siddiqui has been placed on ventilator after health condition worsened.
The family has confirmed that Senator Siddiqui’s condition has deteriorated and he has been placed on a ventilator for medical support.
Due to his health condition, Senator Siddiqui will not be able to participate in today’s crucial Senate session, where the 27th Constitutional Amendment is scheduled for voting.
Earlier, the Joint Parliamentary Committee on Law and Justice approved the draft of the proposed 27th Amendment, which is expected to be tabled in the Senate today.
The session is set to begin at 11 am, with Senator Farooq H. Naek presenting the committee report and the Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar introducing the amendment bill for approval.
Sources indicate that coalition partners have yet to reach a final agreement on certain proposed amendments. Among these is the Awami National Party’s (ANP) suggestion to rename Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as well as a proposal to increase the number of provincial assembly seats in Balochistan.
Government representatives have reportedly assured ANP that their concerns will be addressed, while seeking additional time to deliberate on the proposal related to Balochistan’s assembly seats.
Siddiqui is currently serving as a member of the Senate from the Punjab province from March 2021 until March 2027.
