Pakistan Muslim League-N’s preparations for re-election of former three-time Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif as party president are on the peak, the sources close to the development said on Monday.

“Nawaz Sharif would be elected as party president once again during the meeting to be called on May 11,” said the sources. They said, “Khawaja Saad Rafiq would be elected as the general secretary,”.

The decision about May 11 general counsel was made during a meeting with Nawaz Sharif in the chair at the party’s secretariat in Model Town on Monday. Ahsan Iqbal, who is also the federal minister, briefed the meeting about the important decisions to be made at the May 11 general counsel meeting.

At present, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is the president of the PML-N while Maryam Nawaz, the Punjab chief minister, is the senior vice-president of the party. The decision to hold elections within the party has been taken because of the constant engagements and busy schedule of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The general counsel meeting expected on May 11 would pass another resolution for re-election of Nawaz Sharif as the party president despite that the PML-N Punjab chapter leadership had already decided to elect him for the said post.
