ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that Cricket is not just a game but a reason to connect people of different countries.
He was speaking at a dinner reception hosted in honour of the visiting South African and the Pakistan cricket teams in the federal capital.
Welcoming the visiting team, Shehbaz Sharif said that this cricket series was a symbol of mutual respect and good sports relations between the two countries. He highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to promoting international sports and maintaining a conducive environment for hosting major sports events.
Cricket promotes brotherhood and peace, and there is a need to uphold this original spirit of the game, he said, adding that Pakistan has excellent relations with South Africa at different levels and cricket is one of them.
Shehbaz Sharif said South Africa has produced great cricketers, while Pakistani cricketers have also earned tremendous accolades in the world. He extended best wishes to both teams and expressed hope that they would present a brilliant game.
The management and players of the South African team thanked the government and people of Pakistan for their warmth and hospitality.
They said the ongoing series is a memorable experience, and they enjoyed the overwhelming support and applause of the Pakistani fans.
Pakistan and South Africa have played two Test matches, levelling the series 1-1. The T20I series will begin on Tuesday. After that, Pakistan and South Africa will also play a three-match ODI series.
