ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow on link roads and bridges during rains in view of the possibility of flooding.

The prime minister issued the directives during a meeting with NDMA Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, who briefed him on preparations to deal with a possible flood situation.

The NDMA chairman informed the prime minister that relevant institutions had effectively monitored the monsoon season and taken necessary precautionary measures. He said all concerned departments were prepared to undertake rescue and relief operations in case of an emergency caused by adverse weather conditions.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed the authorities to utilise all available resources to provide maximum assistance and relief to people affected by floods or heavy rains.

He particularly instructed the NDMA to ensure that traffic remained operational on link roads and bridges during periods of heavy rainfall so that relief and rescue activities could continue without disruption.

The prime minister also called for stronger coordination with departments responsible for the transportation and delivery of relief supplies to ensure timely movement of essential assistance to affected areas.

Shehbaz further directed the NDMA to maintain effective coordination with provincial disaster management authorities and other relevant provincial institutions to ensure a swift and coordinated response to any emerging flood situation.

The meeting reviewed preparedness measures and coordination among relevant institutions in anticipation of possible weather-related emergencies.
