With the 2024 flood and heavy rain season approaching, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Sindh has called for comprehensive mitigation measures across the region. Imdad Hussain Siddiqui, Director (Operations) of PDMA Sindh, urged all District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) to implement robust strategies to protect lives and infrastructure. In his address, Siddiqui stressed the importance of proactive steps to minimize the impact of floods and heavy rains.

He stated, “It is imperative that all DDMAs across Sindh implement robust mitigation strategies to minimize the impact of floods and heavy rains. Ensuring the safety and well-being of our communities is our foremost priority.” Highlighting the need for early preparedness and effective response mechanisms, Siddiqui emphasized that these measures are crucial to addressing the anticipated weather challenges. To bolster disaster preparedness and response, PDMA Sindh has launched the MSRNA Training program under the Information Management and Assessment Preparedness initiative.

This program, in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA), aims to equip PDMA and DDMA staff, as well as local NGOs from various districts, with essential skills. The workshop was deemed a great success, featuring participation from all thirty DDMAs and strong representation from international and national NGOs.

This collaborative effort underscores the commitment to enhancing disaster preparedness and ensuring the safety of communities across Sindh. As the flood season approaches, PDMA Sindh’s call to action serves as a critical reminder of the need for coordinated and effective disaster management strategies.
